Wegovy and Mounjaro in Korea: what are they, and who can get them?

Written by Dr. Jay (Yongheon Ha) · Doctor, Repic Clinic

Quick answer: Wegovy and Mounjaro are once-weekly GLP-1 injections that reduce appetite, and in Korea they are prescribed only after an in-person consultation with a doctor. At Repic Clinic in Gangnam, Wegovy runs from KRW 350,000 for a 0.25mg pen to KRW 540,000 for 2.4mg (September 2026, VAT-exempt). Mounjaro pricing is given at consultation.

What are Wegovy and Mounjaro?

Both are GLP-1 receptor agonists: injectable drugs that mimic a gut hormone your body already makes. GLP-1 sends a fullness signal to the brain and slows how fast the stomach empties. Semaglutide, the ingredient in Wegovy, acts on the GLP-1 receptor alone. Tirzepatide in Mounjaro adds a second gut-hormone receptor, GIP. Both are injected under the skin once a week.

What it feels like is simple. You serve yourself the usual bowl and often stop about halfway. The people who do well treat the injection not as the plan itself, but as a tool that makes changing how they eat easier.

Who can take Wegovy, and who cannot?

It is a medicine used alongside diet and exercise. The approved criteria are a BMI of 30 or more, or a BMI of 27 or more with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or abnormal cholesterol, and a doctor makes that call at an in-person consultation. It is not a cosmetic treatment for someone 2 or 3 kg from a goal weight.

When we do not prescribe

  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy.
  • You or a family member have a history of medullary thyroid cancer, or you have been diagnosed with MEN2.
  • You have a history of pancreatitis.

If any of these apply, we will not prescribe. I say so on the spot, without dancing around it, and we talk about what options remain.

How do I get a Wegovy prescription in Korea?

Not online. You need to come to the clinic. International visitors can also be prescribed after an in-person consultation.

  1. Book: +82-2-6952-0312 or book online.
  2. Medical history: your history, current medications and the contraindications above. Bring a list of what you take and the consultation goes faster. Depending on your health, further tests may be needed first.
  3. Prescription and training: if it suits you, you start at the lowest dose, and we show you how to inject with the pen and how to store it.
  4. Follow-up: a visit to check side effects and decide whether to step up the dose. If you are in Seoul only briefly, raise this at the first visit, since each step up is decided at a follow-up.

How is the dose increased, and what are the side effects?

Wegovy steps up one level every 4 weeks: 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 1.7, then 2.4mg. That slow climb is the key to keeping side effects bearable. Not everyone has to reach 2.4mg, either. I prefer to stop at the dose you tolerate well.

Common side effects are nausea, indigestion, and constipation or diarrhoea. They tend to cluster in the few days after each increase and ease as your body adjusts. Rarely, gallbladder problems or pancreatitis have been reported with this class of drug. If you have severe or persistent abdominal pain, stop the injection and contact us right away or go to the nearest medical facility.

So what happens when you stop? The fullness the drug created goes away. That is why follow-ups cover eating and activity too.

Wegovy or Mounjaro: which should I choose?

It is not something to pick on your own. Wegovy is semaglutide, once weekly from 0.25mg up to 2.4mg, at KRW 350,000 to KRW 540,000 per pen. Mounjaro is tirzepatide, also once weekly and started at a low dose, with pricing given separately at consultation. Which one suits you depends on your medical history, how you adjust in the first few weeks, and the doctor's judgement.

How much does Wegovy cost in Gangnam?

The price shown is what you pay. Wegovy and Mounjaro are VAT-exempt medicines, so no VAT is added. These are Repic Clinic Gangnam prices as of September 2026, per pen, and one pen covers 4 weeks (once weekly x 4).

How we manage it at Repic

The doctor who writes the first prescription follows the whole dose-escalation process. Follow-ups are where we adjust the dose, sort out side effects and review eating habits, because the habits you build are what remain after the drug stops. We do not promise a number of kilograms or a number of months. If a clinic leads with figures like that, look twice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a Wegovy prescription in Korea?

An in-person consultation comes first. Wegovy is prescription-only in Korea, so a doctor checks your history and contraindications before prescribing; international visitors can be prescribed the same way. At Repic Clinic in Gangnam we cover history, suitability, a 0.25mg starting prescription with pen training, and the follow-up plan. We do not prescribe by email or chat.

What are the side effects of Wegovy?

Nausea, indigestion, and constipation or diarrhoea are common, usually clustering in the days after a dose increase and easing as you adjust. Rarely, gallbladder problems or pancreatitis have been reported with GLP-1 drugs. For severe or persistent abdominal pain, stop and contact a doctor at once. Raising the dose slowly is the key to managing side effects.

Who should not take Wegovy?

Wegovy is not prescribed if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning pregnancy; if you or a family member have had medullary thyroid cancer or you have MEN2; or if you have a history of pancreatitis. We also do not prescribe it cosmetically to people already near their goal weight. Repic Clinic checks all of this in person.

What is the difference between Wegovy and Mounjaro?

Wegovy is semaglutide and acts on the GLP-1 receptor; Mounjaro is tirzepatide and acts on both the GLP-1 and GIP receptors. Both are once-weekly injections started at a low dose and increased step by step. Which one suits you is decided at consultation based on your history and how you adjust early on, as we do at Repic Clinic in Gangnam.

How much is one Wegovy pen in Korea?

As of September 2026 at Repic Clinic in Gangnam, one Wegovy pen (4 weeks) costs KRW 350,000 for 0.25mg, KRW 400,000 for 0.5mg, KRW 450,000 for 1.0mg, KRW 500,000 for 1.7mg and KRW 540,000 for 2.4mg. It is a VAT-exempt medicine, so the listed price is what you pay.

Will I regain weight after stopping Wegovy?

The fullness the drug provides disappears when you stop. That is why follow-ups at Repic Clinic in Gangnam cover not just dose adjustment but how much you eat, protein intake and activity. We do not promise a weight-loss figure or timeframe; the plan focuses on habits you can keep after the medication ends.
