What Is Body Ulthera?
Body Ulthera is a non-invasive body-lifting treatment that uses high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) energy to reach the deep layers of the skin (including the SMAS fascia), helping to lift and firm loose, sagging body skin from within — without any cutting. It is the body version of facial Ultherapy, used to care for the elasticity of sagging skin on areas such as the abdomen, arms and inner thighs. It is care for skin firmness, not a weight-loss treatment. Like a magnifying glass focusing sunlight to a single point, it concentrates ultrasound energy not on the surface but at one spot in the deep layers, stimulating only that depth to lift slackened skin from within.
What to Expect: The Body Ulthera Treatment Process
1) Consultation: the doctor reviews the skin and area condition and medical history (possible pregnancy, implanted medical devices, metal implants, prior cosmetic materials, medications, etc.), then plans the treatment area (abdomen, arms, inner thighs, etc.), the shot count and the treatment depth individually.
2) Preparation: the area is prepped, guide markings for ultrasound delivery are drawn, and gel is applied; for comfort, topical anesthesia or similar may also be used at the doctor's discretion.
3) Treatment: the ultrasound transducer delivers energy in points along the planned lines; a brief prickling or deep, heavy warmth may be felt as heat concentrates in the deeper layers (the delivery depth and shot count are planned by the doctor according to the area and extent).
4) If pain or heat feels excessive during treatment, informing the doctor immediately lets the output be adjusted.
5) Finishing: the gel is wiped off and a soothing care step finishes the session, with aftercare guidance given for home care.
Depending on the area and shot count, one area takes about 30 minutes; treating several areas or higher shot counts together can take longer. It is usually performed in a single session, though an additional series may be advised depending on the area and condition.
When Will Body Ulthera Results Appear — and How Long Do They Last?
Body Ulthera contracts and renews collagen in the deep layers, so results tend to appear gradually over several weeks to a few months rather than all at once. Changes typically become more evident from around 2–3 months and can continue to develop up to about 6 months as new collagen forms. A slight tightening sensation may be felt right after, but the core change in firmness emerges slowly as the heated, stimulated collagen reorganizes over time. It is usually performed in a single session for gradual care; how long the effect lasts varies between individuals (results on the body are generally regarded as shorter-lasting than on the face), and depending on the area and condition an additional maintenance or reinforcing session may be considered after a period of time. The exact number, spacing and shot count are planned individually by the doctor. The degree and pace of change vary widely with individual skin elasticity, degree of sagging, age and lifestyle. Because Body Ulthera is care for skin firmness rather than a weight-loss treatment, pairing it with a balanced diet, exercise and consistent hydration may help support the results. The degree, onset and duration of results vary by individual, and the same outcome is not guaranteed.
Body Ulthera Safety Information & Aftercare
Body Ulthera is not recommended during pregnancy or when pregnancy is possible. Treatment may be restricted if there are metal implants in the treatment area, or active infection, inflammation, an open wound, or severe skin disease. If you have a history of previous aesthetic procedures or surgery such as fillers, lifting threads, or implants, please inform the medical team of the treatment area and timing in advance; eligibility is judged after confirming the location and condition.
During treatment, as the ultrasound energy is delivered, momentary stinging, warmth, or a deep aching pain may be felt; if the discomfort is severe, please tell the medical team so the intensity can be adjusted. After treatment, temporary redness, warmth, mild swelling, tenderness, or aching may occur, and in most cases these settle naturally within a few days. Depending on the treatment area and energy, temporary changes in sensation — such as tenderness on pressure or sensation that feels different from usual — may occur, and these generally recover over time.
On the day of treatment, avoid excessively hot environments such as saunas, steam rooms, and hot baths, as well as vigorous exercise and alcohol, and it is best not to over-irritate the treated area by rubbing or massaging it vigorously.
If pain or swelling worsens or persists for a long time after treatment, if skin changes such as blisters or burns appear, or if altered sensation or discomfort persists, medical assessment is required. The medical team determines suitability and the treatment areas, energy, and number of shots after assessing your fat distribution and skin thickness and firmness.
